French School Holidays

We wish we could predict the best week for your ski holiday but of course that’s impossible!  What we can do is let you know the dates that are likely to bring the largest crowds to the pistes so you can try to work around these.

France is divided into three zones, each with different school holiday periods.  The dates when two or three zones are off at the same time are obviously the busiest – basically the Christmas and New Year weeks, mid-late February and, to a lesser extent, Easter.

For the 2009/10 ski season, the busiest times (when 2 or more zones cross over) are likely to be Saturday 19th December to Sunday 3rd January, Saturday 13th February to Sunday 28th February and Saturday 10th April to Sunday 25th April.

If you don’t have school age children, January is the cheapest month to pick when you’ll usually find uncrowded slopes and good snow conditions.  For longer days and warmer weather, book a holiday in March.  If you want a week’s skiing before Christmas, head to a high, snow sure resort such as Val d’Isere.
